Extract from Captains Log
31/10/2011 We had planned for an early 0300 departure however, having received a pretty poor weather forecast the previous night it was therefore decided to have a later start with our intentions changing to sail to Poole (Dorset).
After breakfast the cadets were tasked with cleaning station duties this was followed with a stand easy (Tea and Snack Break) and our planned departure at 1100.
The cadets were given a 20 minute shore leave and at 11.00 we slipped our berth and departed Portsmouth leaving the main channel at the swash way. The sails were soon set and we made steady progress against the tide towards the Needles channel.
Upon reaching the Needles channel we went out via the North Channel and made good progress across Christchurch and Poole Bay. After stand easy and prior to a night entry into
Poole harbour, the Sailing Master gave the cadets a lecture on maritime buoyage systems.
We reported into Poole Harbour control at 1500 at the Bar Buoy. There was a strong ebb tide against wind all the way to the chain ferry which made progress difficult and slow. The ship was helmed by Sqn Ldr Martin Cope, who also under the Captains instruction took the ship alongside at Poole Town Quay. The ship was secure alongside at 1820.
After supper the cadets were given shore leave which expired at 2130.
Lights were out by 2230.
